The atomic bear tactical pen is decent for the price. Reviews are mixed on build quality, but most people see it as a sturdy every day carry option.
Reviews are mixed on the build quality. People usually say that the pen is well built. Owners describe the pen as “hefty” and “sturdy”. Here’s an excerpt from a glowing 5 star review:
Great pen!, I work unarmed security were not allowed to carry heavy weapons Or tools. And this pen is perfect for the job sits deep in my pocket with a solid cap and clip. Sturdy in hand, durable easy to switch from discrete defense end to writing end when taking patrol notes, I love how the pen cap locks in place and covers both ends and isn’t a screw on and off.
It will break glass well thanks to its strong, heavy body but people have concerns about how well it writes. One user describes it like this:
Pen is very top heavy, awkward in the hand and uncomfortable. I gave it away. It writes nice but is not a pen u can use everyday. The quality is there, its just not the pen i was looking for. Other people say the quality is great and have no problems.
While some people say the quality is great, there are quite a few people who had problems. The Atomic Bear has problems with the clip breaking, the pen tip not staying in place, and the whole top of the pen falling off. The most common issue in about 5% of reviews is the pen clip breaking. It is unlikely any one person would run into problems with the pen, but build quality is something we always highlight.
Here at Tactical Scrawl we expect our recommended pens to be sturdy and functional. That means the pen must function well in an emergency situation and work well as a pen. This pen appears to be best used as a collectors peice rather than for a practical purpose out in the real world. There are just too many complaints it breaking under little strain for us to consider this a good pen.
